The Washington State University Vancouver Is... Advertising and Recruitment Campaign is a new upcoming project that I am working on with Washington State University Vancouver to help increase enrollment for upcoming semesters! This campaign is split up into different teams, and I am on the game development branch. I have been tasked with creating a gamified tour of the campus where students can learn about our University while having fun and staying engaged. We have cuurently just wrapped up production and are waiting for our game to be published onto the WSU Vancouver Is... landing page! Come back soon for the playable link!
WSU Vancouver Discovery Tour
The Project
The WSU Vancouver Discovery Tour is a fun little experience for potential students of WSU to explore the campus and the opportunities it holds for them! The player can interact with various characters around the campus and answer questions based on their likings. As the player moves throughout the world, answering questions along the way, their preferences will be documented behind the scenes. The game will take note of the player’s actions to recommend them a certain major type by the end of the tour. When the tour is completely finished, the game will spit out recommended majors that the player might want to look into! Gameplay should take no more than 30 minutes and is a quick little experience for perspective students to play! Go ahead and hop into the virtual WSU Vancouver experience here!
Development
We developed this game with a team of five people. We had two developers and two designers. The last person is me, who worked in both fields. I worked on this project as the head level designer and implementer. I took all of the assets that the design team had created and inserted them into the engine. For this project, we used Unity WebGL to make sure that our game was accessible for everyone including people who are casual or are a newbie to video games . The development process took about 4 months, and I couldn’t be prouder of the product that we created and nurtured. A couple things that I wish we could have added if we had time are a mini-map and physical mini-games the player could engage with. Overall, this game is a fun experience that doesn’t take long to play. It has a lot of charm and a lot of love put into it! Go ahead and give it a try with the link above!
